Gary Vaynerchuck Pays Attention To Our Niche! Approach by Amazon.

I was doing some business for clients online today and I came across a dynamic (albeit short) video by Gary Vaynerchuck I though you should see.

Gary Vaynerchuck is the owner of WinLibraryTV, a very successful blog about wines (as an affiliate – he knows his stuff!). He also owns VaynerMedia, which is a progressive media company owning Social Media commentating and their opinion matters.

Well, our friend Amazon, who recently released the Kindle Fire device (my friend Justin Germino over at Dragonblogger is doing a HUGE giveaway for it – check it out!), approached Gary about publishing his books (obviously NOT self publishing), as they are doing a couple official Amazon releases this fall.

According to Gary, conventional publishers are SWEATTING!

Enjoy the video, and as always, now it’s …

Your Turn.

Tell us your opinion on what Gary said. Is self publishing really the way to go these days? And do you agree with many of our writers here that not a lot of attention is being paid to QUALITY, something that may still be damaging the craft and the reputation of self publishers the world ’round…

You gotta hustle if you’re to make your dream happen!

  1. THAT HAPPENS TO ME TOO! lol well it’s really all about being social. Being quiet won’t really get you anywhere anyway. It’s hard to be “out-there” but take it a step at a time :)

  2. This blog and video got my attention! I am really amazed on how he wrote his book in just 3 days!

  3. Cool Ivin – first book in 3 days and publishing it in 2 weeks! I like this post and I think that we are in a problematic situation with amazon but it is really the easiest way…

  4. Yes, great video and great blog! The middleman is doomed. Ok, traditional publshers are sweating, the world is upside down!

BUT…all this could be helpful to readers (perhaps) but is it helpful to authors? I don’t know. To answer that question you need to answer whether Amazon is HELPING BOOK DISCOVERABILITY. Is it?

Can a Big Corporation on its way to becoming if not a monopoly at least a giant among giants (read oligopoly for those of you who are economists)really help in improving book discoverability? Frankly, I doubt it. It will pick books to publish on the basis of what its own editors like AND what already sells because it’s been positioned well by marketing-savvy promoters.

It will NOT pick books on the basis of quality or innovative ideas (i.e. things that are not mainstream and therefore have a hard time drawing attention to themselves in a mass market awash with “fashionable” stuff).

How good is such a situation for a newbie with a brand new book that looks like nothing that has ever been published before?

Not too good, in my opinion…

  5. This is competition my friends and guess who has to win from this situation? The readers! The end-users, the clients! Amazon is taking an important step for his evolution. Conventional publishers, it’s your turn to it’s your turn to start “kissing customers ass,” otherwise Amazon will put you in bankruptcy
