One Door CLOSED: 6 Things You Can Do When You’re Not Allowed To Do What You Love To Do.

From March 2010 until August 2011 I provided Columbus, Georgia area  listeners a WOE, a Word Of Encouragement during The Kris Green  Radio  Show on Inspirational Wednesday. I had no clue that my time on air was about to be  over. I never took the opportunity for  granted. Each week I would ask Kris if I was going to be on and when I finished my take  I would ask for constructive  criticism?

After being on the air each time I would receive calls, emails and text messages from listeners letting me know how much they enjoyed my messages. There is no greater feeling then doing something you love to do and have others genuinely appreciate it.

One Tuesday I checked in with Kris to see if I would be on the next day and he informed me that my time was up and I no longer would be able to come on air. I asked why and Kris said it was Michael Soul’s decision. A door was CLOSED.

Through the word CLOSED I present to you 6 Things You Can Do When You’re Not Allowed To Do What You Love To Do.

Communicate. All I wanted to know is how could I get better? How can I keep doing what I love to do? I was never given the opportunity to hear from Michael Soul himself. I called and even sent him a Facebook message. I never received an answer. Reach out to the other parties involved when you can so that when others ask what happened you can give a full story.

Learn. I look back on my time on The Kris green Show and I’m thankful for what I learned. This valuable experience taught me how to write and entertain an audience that you can’t see. Always think about the great thing that you were able to accomplish with each opportunity.

Observe. Take time out to see and listen to what others are doing and how you can improve. Read articles and watch videos of who is at the top to see what they do successfully and also different. Adapt what you can to your future marketing plans.

Seek. Find other ways to get your message out to others. If radio closes a door look into television. Not being on radio forced me to write more so I started a blog entitled Today’s Honoree. When the ideas start flowing others will ask you to write for them so weekly I contribute to Autho Publisher and DIY Marketers.

Expect. Believe you will succeed again. Wake up with the right mind frame. Put in the work daily and you will be rewarded. Sometimes results come quickly and others will come months and years down the road. Follow the principle in Matthew 7:7 where it says Ask, Seek, and Knock and doors will open. Keep expecting doors to open and eventually they will.

Develop. Put 100 % into whatever you’re good at or love to do. Find courses to take and opportunities to put your talents into action. As you travel others will cross your path that can move you in to positions where you can make the most of your abilities. When you have gone as far as you can connect with veterans in your industry that would be more than willing to mentor you.

When we Communicate, Learn, Observe, Seek, and Expect we Develop the mindset that when One Door CLOSED another door will open. If someone doesn’t return your message or call never let that be the reason for you to fall. Some will say yes and others will say no. Use these 6 Things the next time your door gets CLOSED and You’re Not Allowed To Do What You Love to Do.

  1. This is a truly inspirational post. In failure you learn so much, not only about what you tried, but also about yourself. Did you pick yourself straight up after the failure or did you curse others for it. Life is about learning, and we should never stop.

  4. Too right. Persistence is the name of the game in pretty much every avenue of life (especially queueing at the post office).

I’ve always been a firm believer that the only way to fail is not to try. If you put 100% into something for long enough sooner or later you’ll find success.

    A great read.

  5. In order to succeed one has to have pitbull dog like tenacity. Those who believe will succeed.

  12. Hi Derrick!
This is such an inspiration to those people who easily felt down whenever they are not allowed to do things they wanted to do.
The lack of fighting spirit and self-confidence may lead them not to those things. The words of encouragement plus their eagerness to do, makes them realize that they can actually get what they wanted if they really wanted to. If there’s a will, there’s a way.
