REINVENT Your Shelf.
Everywhere I turn I keep seeing and hearing how others are reinventing themselves. My mind started turning and thinking and I softly heard a voice. I said to myself “not again”
I thought I was going crazy before when I heard a piece of paper tell me, “Don’t Leave Me Naked”
This time is wasn’t the piece of paper but it was the bookshelf that sits in the corner. Mr. Bookshelf was straight to the point when he said “In order to reinvent yourself you have to REINVENT Your Shelf”
Immediately I was mentored by Mr. Bookshelf through the word REINVENT as he gave me 8 Things so you at home can REINVENT Your Shelf.
R is for Rid. Pull every book off your shelf. Only put back the ones you are reading or need for the work that you are currently doing now or will do in the future. The books you don’t need can be taken to the Goodwill or other book programs.
E is for Exchange. Ask other book lovers you know what books they are looking to trade or get rid of and you let them know which ones you are about to get rid of. You never know what diamonds you can find in another person’s rough.
I is for Imagine. After you get rid of some to make room for others and after you exchange there still may be space for great reading material on your shelf. Think of books that would make a difference in your life. Visualize reading and applying the knowledge for success.
N is for Newsletters. Online you can find and sign up for newsletters for the types of books you like. This is a great way to join book clubs and save on future purchases. You can be one of the first ones to know when certain books will become available.
V is for Visit. Sometimes you have to get in your car and go. In person at a bookstore you can build relationships with employees. The more they know your interests the more they can point you in the right direction.
E is for Elated. Be excited about writing. Look for happiness with each page you turn. When you are excited others will be excited for no reason at all. They will find ways to help so they can feel good like you do. Literacy is contagious.
N is for Necessary. Unless you want to stay the same REINVENTion is necessary. The ones that used to always say “No” to you will see a side of you that they’ll want to get to know better. Reading, writing and arithmetic will always be necessary.
T is for Task. When you REINVENT Your Shelf it is not a one and done thing. You have to constantly work to REINVENT Your Shelf so it will open up the door so you can truly REINVENT Yourself. A book represents a person. The important things are on the inside. When we open up the world is never the same.
