REINVENT Your Shelf.

Everywhere I turn I keep seeing and hearing how others are reinventing themselves. My mind started turning and thinking and I softly heard a voice. I said to myself “not again”

I thought I was going crazy before when I heard a piece of paper tell me, “Don’t Leave Me Naked”

This time is wasn’t the piece of paper but it was the bookshelf that sits in the corner. Mr. Bookshelf was straight to the point when he said “In order to reinvent yourself you have to REINVENT Your Shelf”

Immediately I was mentored by Mr. Bookshelf through the word REINVENT as he gave me 8 Things so you at home can REINVENT Your Shelf.

R is for Rid. Pull every book off your shelf. Only put back the ones you are reading or need for the work that you are currently doing now or will do in the future. The books you don’t need can be taken to the Goodwill or other book programs.

E is for Exchange. Ask other book lovers you know what books they are looking to trade or get rid of and you let them know which ones you are about to get rid of. You never know what diamonds you can find in another person’s rough.

I is for Imagine. After you get rid of some to make room for others and after you exchange there still may be space for great reading material on your shelf. Think of books that would make a difference in your life. Visualize reading and applying the knowledge for success.

N is for Newsletters. Online you can find and sign up for newsletters for the types of books you like. This is a great way to join book clubs and save on future purchases. You can be one of the first ones to know when certain books will become available.

V is for Visit. Sometimes you have to get in your car and go. In person at a bookstore you can build relationships with employees. The more they know your interests the more they can point you in the right direction.

E is for Elated. Be excited about writing. Look for happiness with each page you turn. When you are excited others will be excited for no reason at all. They will find ways to help so they can feel good like you do. Literacy is contagious.

N is for Necessary. Unless you want to stay the same REINVENTion is necessary. The ones that used to always say “No” to you will see a side of you that they’ll want to get to know better. Reading, writing and arithmetic will always be necessary.

T is for Task. When you REINVENT Your Shelf it is not a one and done thing. You have to constantly work to REINVENT Your Shelf so it will open up the door so you can truly REINVENT Yourself. A book represents a person. The important things are on the inside. When we open up the world is never the same.

  1. Love the use of the acronym REINVENT, wish I was so creative to come up with something like that!

  2. A perfect time to read! I’m planning to change my shelf; this would be my guidelines to create a more unique and creative one. My kids would probably enjoy reading books after the transformation.

  3. Take books off my shelf? But… but… but… my preciouses.

I’ll confess that I’m probably exactly the person who needs to be reading this; I’m a massive hoarder when it comes to literature. One shelf ceased to be enough long ago, and I now have five different, very crowded bookshelves; all in different parts of the house. It’s impossible to find anything when I need it, but parting with my precious tomes is just too hard.

I might give it another try after reading this though.

  4. Really great tips you share with us. Its very useful for me. thank you for sharing this post.

  5. Very concise and straight to the point.

What I like is V for the visit.

Sometimes we have to do the visiting first rather than waiting to be visited. An interaction with others is very important as we can get ideas from them, and vice versa.

  6. Ahhh…just in time for Spring cleaning! I usually skip my shelves but not this year! :)

  9. The acronym is easy to remember. We have to be creative for making shelving and other fixtures to make an organized display of stuffs in our home or store. Thank you so much for sharing such informative post.

  10. The acronym was very creative. All of the advices were to DO something. The problem is that we (consciously) are not in control of our doing. We only think we are. The real change will come from changing our beliefs – that produce our thoughts – that produce our actions. How do we change a belief? We have to realize on a very deep DNA level that the events, that were the primary source of the belief creation, have no inherent meaning. We put meaning in meaningless event. As a result, beliefs were formed in order to be in charge of our lives. What did you say about reinvent? Who is the one to do it?

  11. It is always healthy to introduce order.

  12. The best point for me in REINVENTion is the word visit. Here, others can help you look for the best material that will meet your interest. There are times that these people have more idea than you so they could be a great help on your part.

  13. I like the acronyms you made out of REINVENT. :) We should really be organized to our things so that we can work without hassles. Thanks for sharing this..
