Self Published Star Signs Film And TV Rights Deal

Author A.K. Alexander, has joined the top tier of bestselling self-published authors and has found herself in the top five of the Amazon Kindle bestseller list in the US. Alexander was hailed for reaching the top of the charts in the UK with her self published debut Daddy’s Home, making her one of the first American authors to do so.

Alexander is among the most successful self published authors writing at present and is a figurehead for all those thinking about publishing their own work. What’s more, Alexander has announced this week that she’s entered into an agreement with a Californian publishing firm for the film, TV and foreign rights to her published works.  The firm, ZOVA Books, based in Los Angeles are managed by Hollywood production company Circle of Confusion. This name will be known to many as this is the company who works on acclaimed TV series The Walking Dead and Mad Men.

Daddy’s Home

Alexander’s dramatic thriller Daddy’s Home could be found at number 4 on the Kindle bestseller list this week just behind the eBook version of hugely popular Hunger Games Trilogy which has enjoyed a long-term place in the top five of the charts.

Daddy’s Home is a fast paced thriller which follows CSI agent Holly Jennings as she tracks down a renowned serial killer with the moniker ‘the Family Man’. ‘The Family Man’ preys on vulnerable single mothers and their children and Alexander’s talents create a thoroughly terrifying picture of crime. The images and feelings that Alexander creates are definitely transferrable to film or TV and it’s easy to see why she’s been spotted by Hollywood agents.

Whether or not her work gets turned into film or screenplay is another matter. Plenty of companies have the rights to films they don’t produce but with the gripping tale behind Daddy’s Home and other works including Mommy May I? and the gangster thriller The Cartel, a producer and director could have real success.

Self Publishing and the Author

A.K. Alexander is the pen name of author Michele Scott who also self publishes novels under her own name. She uses her pen name to explore the darker, grittier side of life in a fictional way. As Alexander, Scott creates frightening suspense novels which the general public love to get their teeth into.

The author has discussed many times on her own website and others that despite self publishing not being her first choice, she has now learned to realize that it has opened up many more paths for her. Self publishing has given Alexander and many like her the control over their work. Especially with the advent of eBooks and the Kindle, it has become even easier to publish and then keep close tabs on the success of your work. Through electronic self publishing authors like Alexander are able to see their sales on a day-to-day basis and receive payment on a regular basis. Traditional publishing and relying on a publishing company limits these possibilities.

The Future for Alexander

Aside from her works’ potential screen debut, Alexander has more books in the pipeline. Using her pen name and her real name, the author is working on more mystery and suspense novels for her already hooked audience. She is also working in collaboration with other authors looking to get published to create a unique project combining many narrative voices. More information about this project and everything else going on in her life can be found on her personal blog.

Take Heart from Success Stories

Stories like A.K. Alexander’s provide food for thought for the rest of us considering or producing self published books on a regular basis. With success as great as Alexander’s occurring, it shows there is scope for the self published novelist or writer to really cause a stir amongst critics, reviewers and the media in general.

Throughout the year there is no doubt more information will filter through about A.K. Alexander and her dealings with ZOVA books. Hopefully, we’ll hear bigger and better things, showing the world that self published writers can reach the dizzy heights of Hollywood. If her success continues along the same track as before, she’ll be bound to be hitting our screens soon enough and then it’s just a matter of finding out who’s next.
